Hello everyone. So my brother was finally able to, after waiting years, buy a computer that was capable enough of running microsoft flight simulator X on full settings ( or so he thought). However, when he tried to run it yesterday and maxed out all the settings, it lagged badly. Now he's really sad and I have no idea why this computer can't run it on max settings.

The computer specs are:

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3820 CPU @ 3.60GHz
GPU: dual GeForce GTX 660 with 3.9GB video ram
RAM: 16 GB
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit
Monitor: 1920x1080
DirectX version: 11

Have you tried with just a single GPU? Maybe it is an SLI issue?

Also, do other games run maxed out? Maybe it is a heat issue... possibly not enough cooling running demanding games and its causing certain parts (CPU or GPU) to throttle not to overheat.

Well I tried maxing out Men of War 2 and that lags too. I thought this graphics card would be able to max modern games.

The 660 certainly won't be able to max most games, but you do have two in SLI, correct?

Sorry the game wasn't Men of War 2 that I lagged on it was Company of Heroes 2. I can't post the framerate for microsoft flight simulator X but I've been trying to find out how to see my frame rate for company of heroes 2 but i dont see the option on the game.

I'm really worried if something came wrong with my computer and now it's not performing as it should be. Do you think that's it? Or are these results to be expected?

My brother has some preconceived notions that 1. The operation system of my computer is hindering the flight simulator X's performance and 2. Downgrading from DirectX 11 to DirectX 9 will make it perform better. Does anybody know if any of these are true? Also, I downloaded fraps and suddenly the framerate for company of heroes 2 online seems to be 40. Maybe it's because I was playing online that it started lagging. Also, I just want to say thank you all so much for helping me! You've been a great relief so far.

I just tested it and on ultra Microsoft flight simulator x goes 15 fps
Firo40 I disabled SLI and you were right! It goes 2 fps faster. It might not seem like a lot but you notice the difference almost immediately. I have a question, if I enable SLI for other games but keep disabling it again to play Microsoft flight simulator x will it damage it?

Hey I used an MSI afterburner program and increased the core clock and memory clock's Mhz with (+20) and now fsx increased with 2 frames again. I think i'm just going to keep doing that untill I get 30 fps. Thanks a LOT for your help and have a good day!

Don't expect to be able to get that high of an overclock.

I was having the same problem. try going to this site http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html ( its a Fsx CFG tweaker) I did this with my system that was going @ 15 fps, and now its doing 60-78 fps. if you dont know how to get to the fsx cfg file just go to the start menu and in the search box type in (%appdata%) click on the microsoft folder, a folder named FSX is in there. right click and make a shortcut and move the shortcut to desktop, documents, pictures..etc. the last step is when you are done putting the system info on the website, you click the browse button and click on the (FSX Shortcut) and click on the fsx.cfg. Go to the next page and download the file and paste/ replace the fsx.cfg. also DISABLE DX10.
Tell me if it works

My pc Specs
AMD FX 6200 @ 4.1GHz
EVGA Nvidea GTX 660 Ti
8 GB Corsair Vengiance 1333 (i think)
Thermaltake Performer 2.0 water cooler
600W Ultra PSU
