New memory or just add 8gb?

Hello, I am a little puzzled about performance benefits either by adding 2 more of the same modules or just getting completely new memory. I currently have a dual channel mode of these http://www.amazon.com/PNY-PC3-10666-1333MHz-Desktop-MD8192KD3-1333/dp/B004DHNAGM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371179972&sr=8-1&keywords=PNY+Optima+8GB I have had these since September of 2011 and I want to increase my gaming performance. Would buying another one of these help or should I just get completely new ram. Which ever the choice which would best benefit my needs and why? If getting a new memory kit I would go with these http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0037TO5C0

If going 1600, I like the Ripjaws X in CL7 F3-12800CL7D-8GBXM, the X models work well with AMD generally OC easily to 1866 if you so desire and your CPU can carry them

I am not sure what kind of motherboard your system uses??:??:. Anyway if your system has "4 slots" and supports "16GB or more memory" then yes, adding memory will improve performance but in gaming sense 8GB should be more than enough to run almost any game. So if that's your ultimate aim "to improve gaming performance" then I think you might wanna try other upgrades such as SSD or a better GPU. Upgrading memory helps if you are multitasking or using high memory intensive tasks. You can decide about that. Anyways 16GB is a decent amount of memory.

Both the memory kits are good ones (the existing and the new one) but I do not recommend mixing speeds and brand it can cause stability issues but yeah they should work. If you mix memory speeds the highest will default to the lowest speed but you can set the speeds manually in your BIOS, either you can overclock 1333MHz to 1600MHz or underclock 1600MHz to the existing memory. Overclocking is not a better option. So you can either stick with the same speed or you can install 1600MHz. Hope that helps.

Not a good idea to mix any sets, even sets of the same exact model, it can be problematic, and especially if different brands, different models, different timings, different voltages, densities etc. This is an issue I deal with daily on the GSkill forums, appr 80% of all the RMAs they get in are from people just sticking additional sticks in or folks buying 2 2x sets of DRAM instead of a 4 stick set so they can save $5-10 - the higher price comes from having to test sets to ensure all sticks will work together.....Or better yet (this I got from Corsair and Crucial folks) if there is nothing to just sticking DRAM in - they would simply sell nothing but 1 stick packages and with a slight price increase - they CAN'T do it, SIMPLY CAN'T - they project the RMA rate would balloon about 2,000%, simply because almost no one uses a single stick anymore and they would have so many problems

I agree with what Tradesman1 mentioned about mixing different kits. Since you have an AMD processor I think it is best to get the highest speed memory for your motherboard. But there is note on Asus site which says " Due to CPU spec., AMD 100 series CPUs support up to DDR3 1066MHz. With ASUS design, this motherboard can support up to DDR3 1333MHz." So make sure your CPU does not fall under this category before making the purchase.

If you are going for new memory then I would suggest you to go with 2 x 8GB rather than 4 x 4GB as it can cause excess to MC (memory controller). 1866MHz is a stable speed or 2133MHz I do not about the stability with this motherboard but yeah should work. I think 1866MHz is the best speed you can opt for. If you are willing to ditch the memory you have and go for a new memory then check these memory - DDR3-1866MHz CL9 16GB kit:
GSkill RipjawsX - F3-1866C9D-16GXM
Corsair Vengeance (CMZ16GX3M2A1866C9)

Should be good for 1600 then ;) Just checking, I've seen many order 1600, 1866 and up and have a CPU that maxes OCed at 1333....then they get the RMA blues or have to downclock and suffer paying way to much for sticks their rig couldn't run at full freq
