I had a game crash this evening and found "Crash.dmp" file in the game folder shortly after it closed down.

I tried opening it but cannot due to my system not knowing what program to open it with....neither do I so I am asking here if anyone can help me.

Thanks in advance.

If I understand the webpage, it is talking about a blue screen crash. I did not experience a windows crash only a game crash. My system was not affected and I immediately ran my Ccleaner which found a few items but nothing that identified the GW2 program as a problem.

I was playihg GW2 and the game froze then dumped me to my desktop closing out the game. I checked the game folder because I thought there might be something there and that is where I found that crash.dmp file. However, I was unable to open it because my system could not identify a program to open it with.

Is there another way to be able to read this without having to install something?

The program I mentioned is for reading .dmp files. I downloaded it last night and ran it to read another forum member's .dmp files. You can trying opening the file in Notepad but it will be difficult to read. This link from Microsoft gives some direction on reading a dump file. It doesn't have to be a blue screen for that program to help you isolate the problem. I understand about not wanting to install additional software.

Thank you very much for clearing up my confusion. I shall check it out tomorrow after I've had a night's sleep. I don't like fiddling with anything on my pc when I am tired ...tends to lead to mistakes I could have avoided. LOL...:)

You are so right in getting a good night's sleep before attempting to do this. I know about making mistakes when tired. Let me know if you find the culprit.

I found the problem: microsoft-windows-restartmanag software

However, it wants me to purchase software to fix these problems. PC Scan summary indicates 10 programs with stability issues and 30 Registry errors.

How can I fix these without purchasing this software? Surely there is another way to do this.

Update: I just ran my registry tool directly from my Norton 360 program and it detected and deleted old entries. I won't know if this fixes the problem because i have no idea how to read my registry. Normally, I just leave it alone and run my Norton once a month to fix issues with my system which has worked just fine.

Just wish I understood this better. And what is that Microsoft restartmanage...makes no sense to me but one thing I noticed...not sure if it is relevant. I had Windows updates this week just before I got that crash with my game. I have had issues before and it is a royal pain because the game company is absolutely no help.

Usually, I end up reinstalling my graphic driver after I get a Windows update. Such a pain...so I'm off to reinstall my graphic drivers before I jump back into the game.

I am following this forum because I have had the same problem recently. Downloaded the suggested software and ran it. Got one file highlighted in pink, which I am guessing is the problem file? Here is the entire line: ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.exe+1040b fffff800`02c00000 fffff800`031e6000 0x005e6000 0x5147d9c6 3/18/2013 11:21:42 PM Microsoft® Windows® Operating System NT Kernel & System 6.1.7601.18113 (win7sp1_gdr.130318-1533) Microsoft Corporation C:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

I have no idea how to interpret the information. Can you help me?
Thanks, in advance.
Kate
