Fairly New Build Freezing Frequently

Hey everyone,

I built a PC in.. February I believe.

Shortly after, I noticed that it would freeze if I left it on for more than a 18 or so hours.

Turning it off for at least 6+ hours seems to remedy this issue.

However, it happens much more frequently now. It can happen at any time for seemingly no reason. But perhaps it might be notable that it has frozen 3 times in this past week while loading the youtube homepage. But it also freezes while playing games, while surfing the web, and while doing just about anything else.

I think it might be the power supply unit. Here is why:

1.) When it freezes, I am first able to tell because the mouse stops working. I'll look down and see that the keyboard's backlight is no longer on. Then within a few seconds the entire computer is frozen in the same state that it was in before it was frozen. (No blue screen or anything... Just frozen.)

2.) The area where my computer sat for several months had very little ventilation. I noticed the power supply was very very hot recently, and have since moved it to a much more ventilated (but much less convenient) spot. I wish I had noticed sooner.

It might not be the power supply though. I suppose it could be anything..

Here are my specs:
CPU:Intel core i7 3770k
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 XT w/ Boost
MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte Intel Z77 (GA-Z77X-UP4-TH)
CPU FAN: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
SSD: Samsung 840 Series 2.5 inch 120GB SATA
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Blue 16 GB (2x8 GB)
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200 3 TB 7200RPM
PSU: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 V2 650W
CASE: Corsair Obsidian Series Black 550D
OS: Windows 8 64 bit

My current CPU temps are:
about 41 degrees Celsius for each core
It seems to freeze regardless of the CPU temperature

This is a very broad problem, so let me know what other information needs to be included in order for us to all narrow it down to the issue.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the assistance! ^.^

Could be most anything, but probably, in order:

power supply
ram
motherboard

The easiest solution would be to borrow or buy a new power supply.

For the ram you can try using just one or the other ram stick and see if one of them is bad.

Freezing on a new build is almost certainly caused by problem memory, as suggested try one stick of memory at a time also try running memtest86 for several days and as memory is cheap consider buying one stick of 1333Mhz memory 2Gig for testing purposes.

Thank you for the responses.

I found memtest86 really confusing, so before trying that, I just switched out both of my ram cards.

I used the first one.. It froze after a while. I removed it, and used the other one... Same thing. It froze after a while.

So I put both in, and it froze again after a while... This makes me think that is isn't the ram, what do you think?

Also, I made sure to update my motherboard to the latest BIOS, but that didn't help. I really have no idea what is going on.. But this is very disappointing. I fear I won't be able to find a fix since I don't have access to tons of parts for testing purposes. :/

I think it might be notable to point out that I used the intel diagnostic processor tool, and it told me that my CPU is fully functional. I don't really know if that means anything though.

To me, it seems like it is probably the motherboard or the PSU that is causing this. But I don't really know how to tell if I have ruled the RAM out yet or not.

These freezes are very strange. The mouse always goes off first. Then the keyboard soon after. After that the computer finally freezes. It never happens all at once though, which I find really odd. It usually takes from 5-30 seconds before the whole system freezes. But even then, when I hit the power button it will sometimes recognize that it is shutting down, and it displays a message accordingly. (But not always.)

Another thing that I want to mention is that it still seems to freeze while loading things or doing some sort of task. If I leave the computer on all day, it never seems to be frozen upon my return unless I had it actively running some sort of program. And freezes always seem to cause the mouse to show the loading circle thing that windows has.

I appreciate the responses so far. With every step I hope I can cross something out of the way until I have solved the issue! :D

I have also noticed that my computer is stuttering when playing games. For example, in Team Fortress 2, about every third step I take, my character jumps forward slightly almost as if I'm lagging. It happens offline too. I also noticed a sort of stuttering lag using google hangouts. It seemed to happen at regular intervals. But like I said, since the stuttering happened offline in Team Fortress, I don't think it has to do with my internet or wifi to USB device.
