Hey guys,

A friend recently asked me to help him build a gaming rig for 1,000-1,200$, we are from Europe so prices may vary if you compare with new-egg for example. I already built my own PC and everything worked out fine but since it's for a friend and hes trusting me to tell him what to invest money into, I'd like a second opinion of this build. (Compatibility, Bottlenecking, Price-effeciency)

Asrock Z77 Extreme4(1155) MOBO
intel i5-3470 3200 IvyBridge(1155) CPU - He does not want to OC.
4GB 1600Mhz Corsair Vengeance RAM
Asus nVidia GeForce GTX660Ti GPU
Seasonic SS-850W PSU
Western Digital Blue 1TB 7200rpm SATA 3 HDD
Bulk LG DVD Writer
Cooler Master Storm Enforcer Case
LED BenQ 24" 2ms Monitor

Thank you in advance for any feedback.
Alex.

Solution
If no overclocking is intended drop the mainboard to h77 or b75 chipset.
PSU is overkill. 600W is more than enough.
Saved money invest in better GPU. Go with 7870 XT, 7950 or even 7970 if it fits the budget after choosing a cheaper mainboard and PSU.

I found an "Asrock B75 PRO3" In Stock right now, I also found a "Seasonic M12II-620W Bronze", I also managed to squeeze an "AMD Radeon HD7970" in. But my question is, are you sure the 620W PSU will carry the 7970? I mean that thing eats Ws..

I used neweggs PSU Caulculator and it says 564W..but how big of a leeway for error does it have? also when you add USB thingies, fans and all that stuff. I'm afraid it won't carry it.

I would recommend the ASRock H77 Pro4, myself, but the Pro3 should be fine.
The 7970 will be fine on a 620w PSU, particularly one of that degree of quality.

Additionally, I would recommend 8, rather than 4, GB of RAM. 4 will do, but 8 would be more ideal.

I'l look into the ram, meanwhile one more thing that I can not find on AMD's site. The card's size, I have a GTX 590 home and it's freaking huge, I have a HAF-X for it. Will the Gigabyte 7970 fit in the Storm Enforcer?

Thank you for all the help so far.

That GPU will not fit inside the Storm Enforcer with the HDD cage. Have you already purchased the Storm Enforcer? If not, there are other cases in that general price range which would fit the 7970.

Edit: Also, glad to be of service. :)

Plan for slight overclock, #note: non-k IB can manage oc little bit only#
Asrock Z77 Pro3, if you plan for slight overclock, Intel Core I5 3470, this is it, able to achieve 4.0GHz, nice! If you don't like asrock, Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H is the best choice for non-k since there no need spend much on motherboard for non-k processors.
look like i'm late, yes, power supply,
i wish to ask here, what your thought on this PSU, Antec 620M; i see review, its good, up to 87% efficiency, typical up to 83%, enable to be overload.

But it will fit with the HDD cage removed, right?

With the cage removed, the Storm Enforcer should fit just about any card on the market.

Edit: That is, "yes".

Okay then. @Planar, ironically the Gigabyte MOBO is 30$ more so I'm staying with the Asrock, and he can not afford 4GB more of RAM at the moment, he said he'll buy them later on.

With that being said, I think this is resolved. Thank you for all your help.
