320gb HDD crashes windows explorer when trying to right or left click

Just keeps crashing and sometimes I have to keep restarting my computer. I want to format it but can't do it if I can't even click on it. It's not showing up in disk management and On My Computer it's being recognized as Local Disk F and Local Disk E.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

It was given to me. Friend said it worked last she checked.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that it's an internal hard drive. She barely used it. I bought an enclosure for it. Maybe that could be the problem?

Are you booting from an external drive?

If it's internal then regardless if she barely used it, mechanical drives are always prone to failure whether just moving when their off, dropping, power surges, etc..
