Can't get 120hz to work!

Hey guys, I went ahead and purchased a Iiyama ProLite G2773HS monitor this weekend, it was on offer for £80 cheaper than usual because the Accessories (Dvi cable and booklet) were missing, I obviously snapped up this offer really quick as I wanted to test out 120hz gaming.

I was firstly using a hdmi to dvi-d cable which I knew wouldn't work but I purchased a Dual Link cable from eBay (A really cheap one for £2.19) and after plugging in the cable it is still stuck on 60hz mode and catalysyt control center is still reporting that my max refresh rate is 75Hz (Although I can only select 60Hz)

I have tried the cable in both slots on my GPU and from either side in my monitor.

Could this be a monitor issue or is it a cable issue? Thanks..

The reason why some monitors go to 120hz is for use with a nvidia 3d glasses setup. 60hz per refresh for the left and right eye displayed by the monitor 120hz. since it is dealing with two images switching or interleaved.
The lcd glasses work the same way in conjunction with the monitor.
And tricks the brain into creating a 3D image from the Lcd screen.
Normaly the case why people buy a monitor with 120hz refresh rate.

No it is not, but if you use nvidia 3d glasses the monitor needs to have a total refresh rate of 120hz.
60hz for the left eye,60hz for the right eye. Some monitors do display at 120hz though, made the game look more fluid and smooth. See if it requires a driver like the other poster said to get it to 120hz.

The monitor is identified as the correct type but when I check the advanced option it does say "Generic PnP monitor" but when I try to update the driver for the monitor it says "Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date 'Generic PnP Monitor'"

Thanks for the answers so far btw guys, I appreciate it.

Here you go drivers for the G2773HS monitor you have, link at the bottom of post.
As side note it also states this to be able to run at 120hz on the iiyama web site.

For 120fps game-play it is required to have a graphic card that supports dual link 120Hz DVI

Thanks Shaun,

When I install the drivers it says my driver is up to date, although I've just researched and apparently there is an issue with the XFX HD7970 and getting 120hz out of the DVI, according to a guide I should go for a DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable!

I sure hope this fixes it!
