Can you duplicate pretty much everything on your ps3 HD onto another so you can mess with one and if you damage it you can just swap the damaged one out and put back in the good one?

I know the chances of this being possible are probably non-existant but it seems like a good idea and I can't think why it wouldn't work.

Well then putting in a RAW drive should work? Or maybe it must be preformatted... Hmmm...

Not really. The PS3 hd's are locked to that PS3, so when you swap in a new one, the new one gets authorized to that system and the old one gets deauthorized. , or it used to be that way but I think in later SW updates it may not be the issue, so depending on what OS you are on, you may be able to swap. Just use an external and backup all your saved games using the built in backup feature, then mess around, if you toast something, restore the system OS from a USB key in recovery mode and then restore your saved games.

What are you trying to do anyways.
