I know, I know there are many other threads out there that explain how to do this but I just don't understand them fully. Basically I want to use this SSD with my hdd. I plan on putting a fresh version of windows 7-64 bit on the SSD and a couple of other games and software that I often use. My question is if I have to download those programs again to the ssd or can I just load the OS on it and just transfer the programs from my HDD to my SSD. Thank you.

A fresh clean install of Microsoft Windows is the preferred method of installation. In addition, a fresh clean install of your software applications, utilities, and games is also the preferred method. Microsoft Windows has a tendency to turn into what we used to call a "bloated pig" because of all the extra files and folders that accumulate. A fresh clean install eliminates a lot of useless or unneeded files.
There are software utilities that are capable of cloning files from a hard disk drive to an ssd. They work reasonably well but sometimes there are glitches. Acronis True Image is mentioned quite often in this forum.
BTW - The installation process is a lot faster with an ssd. Data can be written to an ssd much faster than it can be written to a hard disk drive.
