I haven't experienced it before, but I was overclocking my gpu and I think I did it a little to much, and in the middle of Planetside 2 my computer conked out, stuttered for a little then restarted. Now, it all seems fine and my card is restored to it's previous settings. Could that have possibly damaged my card? This has only happened once and im a bit nervious. Sorry if im freaking out to something I don't need to worry about.

Solution
Your fine! Thats what tells you if your OC is stable or not, that just means you need to up your voltage, JUST A LITTLE though, see if you can google some OCing results for your card and put their settings in, then make the voltage just a little higher.

It will NOT do any permanent damage to your card unless you made the voltage go to something crazy like 1.5 volts

There they say when you OC "Once you get artifacts or a lockup, back down 25 to 50 MHz and typically that is your stable resulted OverClock."

Solution
Run furmark stress test or unigine heaven with you gpu on stock settings. Watch the temps to make sure they are within limits.

Generally, the gpus are fairly well protected against heat issues - they will do exactly what you experience - they will downclock or shut themselves down to protect against thermal problems.

Thanks for clearing that up, that really got me. Anyways I do have an Nvidia card so I cant increase voltage, I might not bother with overclocking. Also, I didn't know about NVIDIA Green Light at the time but everything is good now. Hah, I feel like a newbie now :)

Also, I haven't been on tomshardware in a while so, this may seem stupid, but how do you select the best answer?

Hey it isn't, I just joined about a half an hour ago. You find the box that says "Pick as the solution" near the bottom right-ish.

Never mind, the thread I started was a voting thread and apparently you can't choose an answer on those, but thanks anyways! :)
