Hello, I built a computer a while ago and recently got a nice new 2560x1600 resolution monitor. For the most part, it works great. However, on games that require more power like Far Cry 3 or NFS, my computer freezes. This not happen on lower resolutions like 1080. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Specs are intel i7 3930k, GTX 680 4gb vram, 12gb of ram, and corsair h1000w. Monitor is HPZR30w if that helps.

Have you updated the drivers? Might be simply a single 680 can't compute fast enough for that MEGA HIGH resolution (which is most likely). As you determined the lower resolutions like 1080p is fine, just 2560x1600. Don't forget all games are not created the same way, using the same 'video engine' to do graphics. So where as one game written with one set of code has no problems, another game can't simply do it (as your experiancing)

I can assure you that a 680 can run games just fine on 2560 x 1600. Albiet not max settings but bearable enough.

It shouldn't simply lock up like that... What cable are you using for the display? What comes up in event viewer when the pc locks up. (that might take some digging to find) Is there a BSOD or any type of useful info?
