I'm new to this forum, diagnosing my first build, and am still learning the basics, so bare with me kindly please.

My bios won't read the legal retail copy of windows 7 home premium.

In storage configuration, I have AHCI selected. Additionally, I tried all combinations of boot orders/drive disabling between my seagate barracuda 500 gb and my RW dvd drive. Regardless of which drive is selected to boot from, I still get the same error paraphrased: "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media into selected boot device and press a key"

I noticed if I have the hdd selected (boot order) and hit a key, the error message pops up immediately. However, when the disc drive is selected and I insert the w7 disc, it takes 5 seconds before the error message pops up again.

Both hdd and disc drive are connected via SATA3 ports.

My build:
Asrock z75 pro
Intel i5 3570k
GTX 660
Seagate Barracuda 500 gb
4 gb Corsair Vengance
Rosewill Hive 650 W

Not being a smarta**, but the DVD is label side up and it is a DVD drive right? I ask because have seen both many, many times. Might try in IDE mode as the Drive might require a specific driver (also might want to update BIOS on the score), Is the DVD drive #1 in the boot order? Might check those first, if no joy get back to us

Thanks for your input. I have the disc in the right way but have not tried IDE mode yet. I'm currently creating an ISO image of it onto a new disc. I will post back about my progress.

I don't know what your time zone is, but its hitting 11 pm here, so have to wrap things up. I ended up using imgburn to create a windows 7 copy onto empty disc. I popped that sucker in and my computer is happily being brainwashed downstairs. Thanks for your help.
