Trying to help a friend upgrade the RAM on their Dell Optiplex GX280 but having trouble finding documentation on the mobo to see what is compatable. (Yes I found the PDF user manual on the Dell website but Dell wont let me view it)

Finally came across this site that claims to sell compatible RAM so I was wondering if they could use this RAM.

Hello,

Alright, according to the original Dell specs, your system supports a max memory of 4GB with 4 slots and max per slot is 1GB. Single 2GB module is not compatible and I do not think it will work. So you do not even have to consider buying the Mushkin memory. Yes, Crucial is good brand memory. If you are not sure about crucial brand then you can find other brand memory in this site - Memorystock.com

You can check your system manual using the following link - ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_optiplex_desktop/optiplex-gx280_user%27s%20guide_en-us.pdf

Hope that helps. Cheers!!:sol:

EDIT:** It supports PC2-3200 400MHz and above speeds, probably you may need a BIOS update before you install the memory. Upto 667MHz it is guaranteed to work i'm not sure about 800MHz.
