I have a different companies modem am I still able to use it?

I have the AT&T Motorola Netopia 2210-02 ADSL modem, I have verizon and am currently using a Westell 6100G modem, possibly the worst on the market. Am I able to configure the Motorola Modem to work with my verizon service?

Is it the modem part that sucks, or the router part?

What exactly does this Bridge mode do? The only thing I have changed is the port forwarding. I'm not connecting a 3rd party router, I'm hooking it directly to my pc.
