Hi there, I've been checking out tomshardware for sometime now but this is my first post here.
So straight to business, I've been upgrading my PC bit by bit lately and right now I am about to upgrade the biggest bit, my GPU and I am very scattered as far as options go. Thing is I live in Egypt and PC hardware here is quite expensive so I am trying to weigh my options between the best I could find within my budget.
So I was highly recommended to get Nvidia vs AMD, so from my research my best options seemed to be:
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 Ti OC 2048MB GDDR5
vs
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 OC 2GB GDDR5
The Ti version according to my research shows a small but noticeable surplus in average fps benchmarks, but as far as price goes it's an extra 800 Egyptian pounds and that's a lot of money considering the other one costs around 1700 pounds so it's nearly 50% more expensive, so I am not sure if it's worth getting over the non-Ti model.
And to further complicate things when I looked up similar discussions a lot of people seemed to consider the AMD counterparts more competent or more value for money.
HD 7950 3GB OC GDDR5
vs
HD 7870 OC 2GB
I've been stung by low end AMD cards before though and I hear too often that Nvidia beats the competition, so I could use some insight as to what would do nicely for me in the long run. Mostly for gaming.
P.s I am not interested in overcloking, I've never done it before and don't want to risk it.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: I should add that for the longest time I've been using this low end GPU and subsequently playing on a meager 1280x1024 on a 17' screen, but I think I'd like to trade up now (new gen games and everything), and I might be buying a 21-23' so any res above the old 1280 would be a huge improvement.
