These are my current specs, it gets the job done fine. But i've found I need better fps. And Amd isn't too great for most games. As they dont use the 6 cores leaving me with horrendous issues playing alot of games.
The main reason for the upgrade is recording and I'm not sure what would be better, a new GPU or CPU?
I've calculated the prices for both and they come to about the same.

Bumping is not allowed. But as for the upgrade, go for a new GPU. Switching to Intel would involve a new motherboard as well, and quite frankly you would not see much difference in FPS in games. Even something like a non-ti GTX 660, for about $200 will be FAR more powerful than what you have now.

Thank you, In that case I'm going to get a 670.
I really appreciate you helping me as I have a limited budget and I'd hate to do something I'd regret.

You are quite welcome. Also, if you had a more recent AMD chipset on your motherboard I would suggest upgrading to an FX-8350 CPU down the line, but I am not sure how that would interact with the aging chipset in your motherboard.

There can always be more upgrades, but I just feel the AMD cpu's at the moment havent got their full potential unlocked for most games. Only seeming to use up to quad cores. Which is what causes me the issues in the first place.

That is actually not true. More and more games are coming out that can utilize all that your CPU can throw at it. I know BF3 will utilize up to 8 cores, and with the next gen consoles running 8-core AMD chips that means that most likely ALOT of the games released from here on out will support 8 cores.

I know that in Crysis 3, the $200 FX-8350 is very close in performance to Intels $550 i7-3930k.

In productivity, Intel wins, but in gaming performance AMD wins, at least with the 8350. And power for money? AMD obliterates intel.
