======
Purpose/functionality:
I use this m/c primarily to work on audio and photography large format files.
Questions:
1. I would like to upgrade this to a Intel i7 processor with 32GB RAM.
Can some one suggest a good motherboard that will accomodate in the dell inspiron 545 case?
2. I am concerned that my power supply may also need to be boosted. Is that true? If so what are the recommendations?
Thank you for your help!

You won't be able to fit any core i CPUs to that motherboard. Not even Core 2 Quad models. If your 545's case is in mini tower ( meaning it has a standard size PSU and 4 slot on the back ) then any ITX/mATX motheboard will fit in, prefer a board with LGA1150/LGA1155 socket and 4 RAM slots in order to put in an i7 and 32 gb of RAM.

2. If you want to add in a powerful VGA card along with the upgrade of CPU/motherboard/RAM then a new PSU is needed, if running with the integrated VGA is fine then there's no need to. Any ATX PSU will fir into this case, too.
