I want a brand new Nvidia gtx 660 but I only have a 500w PSU. This unit may power the graphics card but I want to know what will happen if its a cheap, tacky, no good. Will it explode, malfunction, stop, etc?

I have a 'Winpower AD-E500AE-A5/A6' (-doubt this will power it...)

I might get this if it comes to it 'Corsair Builder Series CX 600'

What's your view. Please don't be bias and tell me to get the Corsair, I know its far better but will the one I have make do?

Thanks again.

Here is Guru3Ds power supply recommendation:

GeForce GTX 660 - On your average system the card requires you to have a 450~500 Watt power supply unit.
GeForce GTX 660 SLI - On your average system the cards require you to have a 700 Watt power supply unit as minimum.

If you are going to overclock GPU or processor, then we do recommend you purchase something with some more stamina.

Of course if it's a $25 PSU. all your components are at risk.

Your computer may hang inexplicably (BSOD, weird errors, crash when the internals are stressed). Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but if the PSU causes the voltages to spike, the internals may be damaged.

What is your current setup?

The PSU may just quit working, or you may start getting many annoying little glitches with your machine, such as random lockups, boot errors, blue screens, etc. A "dirty" power stream can cause problems that people don't always think is being caused by the PSU. Many people think that just because it turns on and works, it is fine. With PSU's though, this is not always the case! Most of the time they just fail and your PC simply won't turn on. They have, on rare occasion, been know to burn out with a big puff of smoke, and they can ruin other hardware in your PC. These instances are rare, but it has happened!
