Hello people,
I bought some new ram today (4x corsair vengeance lp 4gb) and am having a lot of trouble with my system.
Every time I start an application that uses a lot of memory, I get a bluescreen after a while. The messages in the bluescreens are different from time to time, ranging from CACHE_MANAGER to DRIVER_IRQL_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I already checked all ram stick with memtest86 (and, while doing that, found out that my 3rd ram slot produces a lot of errors. I am now only using 2 of the sticks in slot 1 and 2).
Arch Linux seems to run without error, though I don't have any demanding software installed there atm.

Also worth mentioning: Even before the RAM change I've had a lot of bluescreens in the past (probably 1 every two weeks) at random intervals.

I'm not really sure what's broken here, or if there's just some wrong settings cached by windows (I know windows does driver freezing for systems which tends to lead to problems when changing hardware)

I'd be grateful for any advice you can give.

Best regards.

Helps if you post your config but what immediately stands out is that you said you have RAM in slots 1 and 2.
To run dual channel, you need to have them offset, so if you're having issues with slot 3, put ram in slots 2 and 4.

You can also try shutting down and loading RAM in slots 1 and 3 and seeing how it acts, but I'm assuming it was that configuration that was giving blue screens. If you can post your config, it may shed some light but sounds to me like a bad memory slot on the mobo.

If you use the old ram in slots 2/4 or 1/3 are you also getting blue screens?

I had run them in slot 1 and 3 before, but obviously with problems. I read that ram in general could also be run in 1&2, but you're right, 2&4 seems to do the trick. I'll probably get a new mainboard and cpu soon anyway, then i can use the full 16 gigs.

Thanks for your answer =)
