Hey all,
First post so let me know if I end up doing this wrong. It seems to me like I want to pick up a GTX 660 card to replace my GTX 285. I'm a little lost as to what the differences are between manufacturers of this card. Also, my Mobo supports PCI2.0 slots, yet the GTX 660 uses PCI3.0. From what I gather the two slots are interchangeable at this point in time.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Looking to buy this week or next

BUDGET RANGE: $150-250

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Primarily gaming, watching movies.

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY: EVGA GTX 285 and Corsair 750TX 750W PSU.

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS: EVGA x58 SLI LE Mobo with Intel i7 core @2.67 GHz. (I'm not experienced enough to know when to overclock and how overclocking changes performance. The Mobo has a built in overclock option that puts it to 3.33GHz.)

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Newegg, Amazon

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: U.S.

PARTS PREFERENCES: I've had bad experiences with Sapphire cards, but this may have been from my inexperience (heating issues).

OVERCLOCKING: At the moment no, but I'll read up on this.

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1600x900

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I'm looking to replace this card twofold: I've been getting continual "Display Driver has stopped working" errors, and experienced artifacting during games, as well as straight black screen. I've updated, rolledback, reinstalled the drivers more times that I can count, so I'm not sure whats going on with it. Temp never gets above 80degrees C. The second reason being I have the cash for it, and I think it's due time for an upgrade.

I'm also running 6GB of ram, and looking upgrade to 8GB 1600MHz. I've noticed that while the ram I bought was rated at 1600MHz, during start up it reads 1333MHz. There is an option to bump this speed up in the built in overclocking software of the motherboard, but I am hesitate to mess with any of that.

Thank you,

Ian

seems like a good choice. for the manufacturers, just read the reviews to see if the card is any good. Usually i just pick the cheapest one. Some are also overclocked.

Your pci slot is indeed compatible and you should not see any bottlenecking if the slot is running at 16x

This Asus is a great choice. Its currently selling for $170 with the coupon. (normally around $200)
