Hello I dont do much gaming these days however like having good frame rates and excellent graphics when I do play. My PC is getting quite old now however still plays games quite well. Current PC as follows;

Motherboard Asus P6T Deluxe V2
CPU i7 950
Memory Corsair 6G DDR3 Dominator GT 2000Mhz
PSU Corsair AX1200
GPU Gigabyte HD6970 OC
Monitor Asus VW266H
Headphones Corsair Vengeance 2000
Speakers Logitech Z5500D
Keyboard Ducky DK9008 Shine II (Cherry Black)
Mouse Razer Mamba 4G

I can get a HD6990 for about $450 AU and crossfire (Tri-Fire) but would it be worth it, Mainly looking forward to Battlefield 4 atm and dont want to compromise on graphic settings? My motherboard is only PCI-E 2 so going to a newer card would mean starting from scratch... Unsure how to proceed any help appreciated cheers.

Since you are running PCIe 2.0, I would suggest a whole new card. The one-card difference between PCIe 3.0 and 2.0 is virtually unnoticeable, but when you get into things such as triple crossfire, you will see some limitations. You would see more performance in tri-fire, but you would have the ability to upgrade in the future if you go with a single card solution.

Sweet as, I was under the impression not to run a pcie3 card on a pcie2 motherboard however if the differnece isnt that noticeable I might look at a new card, any recommendations? I havent really done much research, I use to do alot on the new hardware just dont have the time anymore. Thanks for the quick replies.

Im planning on doing a cpu/motherboard/ram upgrade towards the end of the year-early next year. Just found this 6990 cheap at a local computer store and thought hmmmmmm..... Hehe

The gtx 770 is a steal right now. I would advise getting either that or the 7970, because that comes with 4 free games, which is so nice.

Cheers for the help, Im gonna look around see what deals are going. Would it be worth buying a higher end video card or wouldnt they run very well with the pcie2? (ie. Titan or 7990) Cheers again.

If you have the money, a high end card would be just fine. But I would strongly advise that you don't get the Titan, as the 780 is nearly the same for $350 less.

@ Retaliator: What sort of display/s are you using? Dropping a $1,000+ card into a machine to run a single 1080 display is a big waste of money.
There's nothing wrong with that i7! I'm gaming quite happily on a i5 750, but you might want to look into overclocking it (you do n't say if you have), it's a great way of giving the 'old' dog a new lease of life.
Until AMD sort the drivers, I'd suggest you steer clear of Crossfire in all its forms and go for a single, more powerful card.
The bandwidth of PCI-E 2.0 is not going to be a problem for a single GPU configuration, perhaps a Titan or GTX780 might loose a frame or two, but the CPU is going to be a bigger restriction to that calibre of card.

Cheers again, Im looking at 770-780's now. The CPU isnt overclocked yet, Ive played with overclocking in the past on both Aircooled and liquid cooled systems however havent needed to overclock the i7 yet. (I have a Corsair H100i , should do the job hopefully hehe) Currently only run 1 monitor however want a 3-Monitor setup as 2 of me mates have eyefinity and its pretty impressive. So thanks again for your help guys , good community here. :)
