This is my first time posting on this forum, so I apologize if it is in the wrong section. Thank you for any help you can offer.

Like the title says, I am looking for a good gaming headset and mouse combination. I currently have a nice pair of Audio Technica M50 Headphones which do not have a mic sadly. I was considering a clip on mic, but I am not so sure. My budget is $100 for both product combined. I have looked through a lot of headphones and mice and I have a few preferences so far, but I am interested in knowing what the community has to say. I don't know much about the differences between optical/laser mice and infared mice, but my dad who is a computer engineer says go for an optical mouse. Again not sure. I just started looking the other day, and I am new to this so I have no real preferences as of yet, other than I would like to find a good way to transport them to and from my college. I don't want to toss them in my backpack and have them crammed with my laptop (An Hp Pavillion Dv6 with an alright soundcard) and all my other school stuff.

As far as mice go, I was looking at the Razer Deathadder Black Edition for 50 bucks or the Logitech G500 for 47 bucks. My friend has the Logitech and loves it, but I want to try a different mouse and compare it to his, as opposed to buying the same mouse. I saw the Logitech G300 and the Mionix Naos mice as well and they seemed pretty good as well. As far as holding my current mouse to play games (a crappy IBM Mouse), I palm the mouse and lift my middle finger up at an angle to scroll since there is not a good grip on the scroll wheel. I noticed on some forums that the way one holds the mice is important so I thought it was worth mentioning.

As far as gaming headsets go, if it is noise cancelling like the Plantronics Gamecom 780's I noticed, that's great. I prefer a USB headset since my soundcard is not the best, but if anyone could find a good clip on mic that works with my audio technicas that is a USB mic, I'd consider it. My friend (same one who owns the G500 mouse) recommended the Logitech G230 headset or either the Plantronics 380 or the 780. I personally just want a decent headset (for the music aspect cause I do not want to carry to headsets to and from college) and a mic with it. I will probably transport them in a pouch unless anyone knows of a good carrying case that can fit into the budget.

Sorry if I am asking for a lot, but I want to have a good start on gaming. Once again, thank you for any help you can offer in either department.

At that budget only suggestion i would have, is to keep the headphones you have if your satisfied with them. Get a desktop mic like this.

As for a nicer one i would get a "true" 5.1 set with an octopus of 3.5mm jacks like this

Just an example there are a few to choose from.
Your clip example would work fine too heres one of those http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836138019
