I haven't been a PC gamer since before Xbox 360, but Microsoft's blatant abuse of it's customer base and total disregard for the wants of gamers with the XB1 has me considering jumping the console ship.

If I go PC I want to ensure that my initial build will be at least comparable (preferably better) to the Next Gen Consoles on video game performance. I would like to stay somewhere around $1500 with OS, Monitor, network card etc.

I came up with this on PCpartPicker:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($199.99 @ Microcenter)
CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS9500 AT Ball Bearing CPU Cooler ($30.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($187.99 @ NCIX US)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($57.60 @ NCIX US)
Storage: Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($94.99 @ NCIX US)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($119.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 670 2GB Video Card ($344.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Wireless Network Adapter: Rosewill RNX-N250PCe 802.11b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter ($19.35 @ Amazon)
Case: Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower Case ($49.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Raidmax 730W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($40.25 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer ($14.99 @ Newegg)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($89.98 @ Outlet PC)
Monitor: Asus VG248QE 144Hz 24.0" Monitor ($266.99 @ Amazon)
Keyboard: Cooler Master Storm QuickFire Rapid Wired Gaming Keyboard ($73.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Mouse: Corsair Vengeance M65 Wired Laser Mouse ($54.99 @ Microcenter)
Total: $1647.05

How does this look? I want to trim a couple hundred on the price but don't really know where to start. I am no PC expert and I picked all the components here after only a few hours research.

This is a learning experience for me and I am open to any input.

Thanks!

Solution
When I saw the title I thought you were really going for a console alternative (that is, 400-500$) Not a high end rig.
If you want to trim hundreds here are some suggestions:
maybe don't buy an aftermarket CPU cooler. If you want a good and cheap one look at the Xigmatek GAIA.
Get a cheaper motherboard and look it up in microcenter because they have CPU+MOBO deals.
Buy a 1 or 2 TB drive, which are better in price/GB. 3TB is still expensive.
Get an AMD Radeon HD 7870 XT as a video card. Much cheaper and almost the same performance.
That PSU is a poor choice. Get an 80 plus 500-600W PSU.
Definitely get a cheaper monitor. I don't know why you would want that one really. 144Hz? you won't reach that many fps anyway.
And finally...

And finally, spending 130$ in mouse and keyboard just seems wrong to me.

EDIT: oh and for reference, the next gen PS4 will have 8GB of RAM and an 8 core AMD APU with something like a 7850-7870 GPU.

Thanks for the reply!

Your changes all make sense to me, except for the motherboard which doesn't support crossfire. Since I may get a second video card down the road that will be important for me. I think the ASRock Z87 Extreme3 is a good option for only $20 more.
