Need LGA 1155 Motherboard for Gaming PC

Hey guys,

Total newbie here trying to build his first Gaming PC. Basically I'd like some advice as to which LGA 1155 motherboard I should be getting to go with my requirements (as well as any other parts you can recommend). I think I'll be getting an Intel Core i5-3570K processor.

I aim to play standard stuff like Minecraft, Battlefield and other Steam content. I also need to edit HD video for my YouTube channel. I'm not tight for space, so do you think a full ATX, or micro? How much RAM? Any information and advice you can give will be greatly appreciated. I'd like to keep the full price between £600-£700 if possible.

Thanks for your time,

Greg

  1. If you're getting an i5, why not the i5-4670k?

With a 4670k you will need a Z87/LGA1150 motherboard, it is the newer stuff about the same in price and a small bit better. I would suggest that you go for the newer parts.

16GB of memory would be good for video work, any good quality 1600, ATX or uATX are both fine.
  3. I hadn't seen the i5-4679K! I'll probably be getting that instead, it's only about £15 more.
  4. Thanks for the quick responses, it looks like I'll probably be going with the MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING Motherboard.

Any other advice or info on RAM, hard drive, graphics card, optical drive, case etc. would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks again for your time.
  5. what is your budget?
  6. My budget is anywhere between £600 - £1000 (that needs to include monitor, mouse and keyboard).
  7. Take a look at this. Feel free to change anything to your liking.
