I'm not sure if my CPU is dying.

So, about a week ago, for no apparent reason, my computer became old and senile.
It randomly crashes in no discernible pattern. It's uptime can span from 1 hour to 10. It really is confusing.
I've checked my core temps and they're typically running below 40 and when gaming they tend to be at an acceptable level. Except when I am gaming, I seem to be getting massive frame drops in spikes, not solidly, on games that I had never had problems with before
When it does crash, everything freezes up, a weird monotonous noise rings from my speakers and I am forced to manually turn it off by holding the power button.
Something of note, which I'm sure isn't the culprit, is the fact that I installed Batman: Arkham City the night before this started happening. Furthermore, I was playing The Witcher 2 (One of the most graphically intensive games out there) for around 5 hours the day before the reckoning. It was a hot day.
Thanks for reading and I hope you can help!

Thermaltake 650W Evo Blue

And yes, but that was only in reaction to the problem, not prior to.
