Hi, all.
We first received our internet equipment (which was branded by our ISP) at a previous residence where this problem did not occur. Then we moved to our current residence and now we are experiencing the problem whereby every time a phone call is made to the landline, the modem loses connection and reconnects. Obviously this is irritating when downloading large files.
I phoned in to my ISP (who is also our landline company) and spoke to a consultant. The consultant said that they detect no noise on the line, and that maybe it's my equipment. He suggested I change my wiring setup so as to bypass as many filters as possible (in case it's a bad filter). I just had the modem plugged in directly into the wall socket, still no luck. Then they sent a technician over who came in and plugged his own modem in, and then the problem never occurred. So he said that it must be our modem that is faulty (which seemed plausible, as we had the modem for quite some time now). We then went and bought a new modem today, and now I noticed that when the phone rings the first time, nothing happens, but if a second call is made after about 30 seconds, it then loses connection again. Now this might be why the technician's modem never detected any problems, because he phoned several times in quick succession.
Everything is currently connected using the new equipment (I tried using the new splitter to connect the phone and modem, still no luck, and also connected the modem straight into the wall socket using no filters or anything else, with no luck there either).
Is there anything else that it could be on my side before I phone in, as an unnecessary call out fee must be paid for any problems that aren't related to their network.
My old modem is the Netgear DG834GU v5, and my new modem is the Netgear DGN2200.
