I built a desktop PC recently and my built in Wifi is not cutting it for some reason. It is about 25 feet from the router and for some reason the computer does not detect the signal at all anymore. I moved it next to the router to test and got about 4 out of 5 bars connecting using Wifi, so I can understand the that the built in Wifi is just not cutting it.

Anyway, I need some recommendations for a wireless network card that will give the best signal quality and range that I can get for $50 or less. I found an ASUS one on newegg for $27 but is there something that can guarantee a good connection?

Here is the link to that card:

Would you consider adapter.

Yes. That is what I meant. Anything that will get me a better connection/signal range than the built in WiFi GO! on my ASUS motherboard, It is not detecting the signals for some reason even though it is well within range. I suspect there is some metal built into the walls or something, but whatever.

Anything that will give me the best result possible for connecting my desktop wirelessly to my router. I am worried that if I just buy some card/adapter it will yield the same results. Any help is appreciated.

Will that wield better results compared to this?

Remember the big problem I have is it detecting my router from only about 25 feet away, but there is something blocking it. Will this give me a better connection than the built in one that comes with my motherboard?

Thanks anyway though, that one looks good.

I saw that one two but I would like to invest in the one you mentioned or the one I linked as they seem to be a step up and have better connection

Then I would recommend the one I suggested since it would likely last longer and with more antennae the connection would be stabler

And is there a real quality difference between USB adapters and PCI ones?

It says 2.412 Ghz. Is that the same thing as the 2.4Ghz that my router uses?

I would also go with USB ones. Used to be the internal ones were better because the USB was slow. Now the antenna being so close to the case with the internal ones is a larger disadvantage now that they can both run the same speed. I like the USB ones because you alway have the option of a 15ft USB extension cable if on top of the computer is not optimum.

Putting antenna on the back of a metal box and then many times putting it against the wall does not do a lot of good things for signal reception
