I was doing temperaturew tests for my newly built pc. It has a fx 8350 with a cooler master hyper 212 plus. My idle temps are in the high teens and low twenties. After about 20 to 25minutes of prime 95, coretemp and speccy are showing temps of 53 degrees. However, it has been slowly creeping up, and it was 49 at first. Is this normal? And are my temps safe?

The highest they ever got was 55 degrees according to coretemp, but they went back to 52-53. I know this is perfectly safe, but shouldnt i be getting lower temps at stock clocks? Because I want to overclock to ~4.5ghz later on, and I think that will push my temps to near 60 degrees.

have you tried re-applying the paste & re-seat the cooler?

Can I do this later when I want to overclock? I actually installed the cooler in the wrong direction so that it exhausts up the top of my haf 912 (perpendicular to the ram so that the ram could potentially be in the way if it was tall enough). I dont think this is terrible, but my video card is two inches in front of the intake. Does this block airflow? And i know for a fact I will have to reinstall the cooler if i ever want to install a 200mm intake fan on the top. I think it would provide better cooling if it exhausted out the exhaust fan on the back.

well it doesn't help that the cooler is sucking hot air from the video card no, but over all with good air flow in the case you should be ok, after all hot air rises anyways. what kind of case fans do you have?

EDIT:
also, don't install an intake on top. the rule of thumb is front and side intakes, rear and top exhaust.

if you go with a top intake, you'll be creating a vortex like effect as the cold air coming in will go to the bottom pushing hot air up only to be pushed around by the fan. Fans aren't about pushing as much air into the case, but rather creating flow. since things get really hot inside a case, a top and rear exhaust with front (and optional side) intakes will cause the air to flow nicely through the case.... (due to hot air rising naturally)

Right now i have the haf 912 default fans (120mm on front and back) but i plan to do a massive fan upgrade soon by adding a 200mm exhaust on the top, replacing the front fan with a 200mm fan, and placing the 120mm that i removed from the front on the side. But are my temps completely safe? I ran prime 95 for about two hours today and the temps seemed to max out at 53 degrees according to hwmonitor, speccy, and coretemp (coretemp was at 54 though)

yeah those temps are fine, if it goes above 60, that is a problem. but once you put some more fans in your case, your cpu temps will go down. simply because the case temp will be lower and that will make your cpu cooler more efficient. it won't make a huge difference but it will certainly lower the cpu temp by a few degrees.

53 is fine dude. I got a AMD FX 8350 but only have a stock heat sink running prime my temp hangs at 60-61 max load not the best but for stock H and fan its good as no real wold applications I've seen actually push it harder than that.
