x58 is a 1366 pin socket. haswell is 1150 pin. your motherboard is 2 generations old, so no.

or would this processor do?

if you have an x58 motherboard, you probably have a decent cpu as it is. the slowest cpu that can fit in that is an i7-920. whatever cpu you have, you should make sure you have a decent cpu cooler, and overclock it. if u do want to upgrade, just change the motherboard.
