Alright a new thing my computer is deciding to do it shut off at a random period of time.

It has only happened three times in the past 3 weeks. the pc will be on, and then it will be off. No blue screen nothing.

The first time it happened upon turning it back on the computer had turned back off after about 1 or 2 minutes of being on. (making that the 2nd turn off)

The third time happened tonight. where it just shut off but was able to turn it back on with no later problems.

I post this today asking Is this a sign that my powersupply is beginning to die? or could it be possible that it is from another source?

Recently before it had began i cleaned out the dust from only the outer parts of the computer. Could this be a cause? dust getting into the power supply?

Thank you for any possible solutions and will be glad to answer any questions.

could be...

1) something overheating
2) something shorting out (dusty mb/gpu?)
3) dying psu/mb/cpu/ram

If you've not cleaned your pc recently, i'd break the whole thing down, clean it from top to bottom, including cleaning out heatsinks, reassemble. Take special care to insure your mb is mounted properly and cpu is seated with a cooler and new thermal paste.

start it up and see what happens.

thanks for the reply.

the computer it's self has not been cleaned recently. so i will get onto that.

as for overheating that may be a possibility due to the fan going insanely retarded fast on these warmer summer days.

so i will clean out my pc. and hopefully i will be able to spot something or cleaning will fix the problem.

pay special attention to the heatsinks. make sure they're clean. dust on the fins acts like an insulator... i recently helped a friend gain 30C on idle temps alone just by cleaning the dust out of his case and off his cpu cooler.
