In the middle of doing a build for my uncle and I'm a bit of a noob. He wants a BitFenix Shinobi XL case which has 4 USB 3.0 ports and a quick charge port on the top/front of the case. Now when I'm selecting a MOBO is there anything special I need to look for in order to make all of those USB 3.0 ports work? I've been planning on going with a ASUS Sabertooth for the MOBO but I have no idea on if those 4 ports on the front would work or not. Thanks

Jeremy

Motherboard needs to have two USB3.0 headers. Or you can connect one pair of these ports to USB2.0 header, but then obviously they will work slower.

You haven't mentioned which Sabertooth you are considering.

that's because we still haven't decided for sure if we are going with an AMD 8350, an i7 3770, or i7 4770. We just need a mobo that has really quick data transfer, keeps things cool, and is reliable. The sabertooth series from what I can tell does all 3 of those quite well.

Some new Z87 ( LGA1150/Haswell )boards have 2 internal usb3 header for the 4 ports Shinobi XL has. Asrock Z87 Extreme4, for example. On other platforms, you'll most likely have to purchase an additional usb3.0 pci-e card with 20pin header to use all those 4 ports at usb3.0 standard.
