(8gb)4x2gb vs (8gb)2x4gb 1600RAM

which is faster?
is both of them compatible with asus sabertooth 990fx r2.0(it got 4 ram slots i am ust asking if works with 4x2)

a quad channel is a dual channel actually. there is no quad channel.
its either dual or triple channel. so yes it would be the same performance wise. but the more memory stick you use the more current you are drawing from the powersupply and cpu works more to utilize them all memories.
2 memories (2x4GB) is the way to go

X79 boards use quad channel memory (eg. ASIS Rampage IV)

2x2=4. quad is a populated double channel.

hehe its a marketing trick :)

They'll be almost the same and that is if they have the same specs like frequency, timings, latency. If you are planning to upgrade in future then go for the 2x4gB sticks if you are not planning to upgrade I'd prefer the 4x2gB.

The 2gB cards will be slightly faster(although the difference is so low that, there is no way you can notice it)
The 2gB cards will be slightly more overclockable.

And if you ever use 32 bit OS then the 2gB sticks will perform better.

-.-
you are not getting closer to the point!
ofcourse not.

x79 boards can support up to 8 stick of ram. every 2 pair of them are controlled seperately by your cpu and if you are claiming that it is a quad channel thats fine.

but in here he doesnt friggin have a x79 board (and by performance there is no significant difference)
and yes quad is a populated double channel. and a marketing trick.

on a x79 board if they used a double channel lane where your cpu was controlling 2 seperate 4sticks together it would be just the same where it is controlling 4 seperate double sticks.

Well dont know if it is a marketing trick or not but they claimed that there are 4memory independent controllers. Also why would anyone want to use double channel lane on a X79 motherboard?

And I know that this guy doesn't have quad channel.

No true quad channel is only supported by the socket 2011 CPUs, they run off the X79 chipset, just as socket 1366 and X58 is true tri channel, as far as your mobo, it's AMD, it's PC CPU only run single channel or dual channel so with your rig either 2 sticks or 4 sticks doesn't matter it's dual channel....As far as sets of DRAM go they don't care, with enough sticks any DRAM can run dual, tri or quad.

Again back to your rig, 2 sticks is better as it is LESS STRESS on the MC (memory controller), AMD has , comparatively speaking has a much weaker MC than do Intel CPUs, so any help you give it improves it....

and he-he, no it's not a marketing trick, X79 runs in true quad channel in single channel a stick is operated as a 64 bit, device, dual they operate at 128, tri @ 192 and quad at 256 bits, need to read up before making ridiculous claims
