Great Rig but Crysis 1 FPS is so bad!

Hey all,

I just wanted to post a general question because I am having trouble with my MSI GTX 780s SLI.

My system is as follows:

I-7 3820 @ 3.8 GHz
2x GTX 780 SLI
16 GB DDR3 mem
875W power supply
overclocked shimian monitor @ 70 hz (1440p)

Anyways, I have that new NVidia shield or optimizer program, and it works pretty decently at giving my games decent settings for good framerates. Usually it just puts everything on max though (except for crysis 3, max + leaving MSAA at 1x).

However for some reason, I just cannot play crysis 1 on max settings at 1440P. In benchmarks I've seen online, crysis 1 was played at about 65ish FPS on 780 sli. However I have horrible framerate and horrible screen tearing. I tried managing the 3d settings on the nvidia control panel and enabled both vsync, and then vsync and triple buffer for the application, but it did not work. Crysis doesnt even show up in the nvidia optimizer application so I cant rely on that either.

When I go into crysis to try and optimize the settings it puts everything on "High" instead of "Very High". That is strange to me... I would have though 780 SLI could handle it because it runs crysis 3 just fine @ 1440p.

Anyways, does any one have any suggestions? Maybe a setting or driver somewhere in Crysis that I missed? SLI is deff enabled.

When checking activity of my GPUs, GPU usage was near 100% pretty much the whole time. Clock speed was at 950ish for each, and temps were at about 74ish for 1 card and 79ish for the other. Power percentage was about 45-50% the whole time.

Would it be safe to apply a fan curve to the card where the fan speed goes to about 85%-90% at 78ish degrees? I don't want to wear the cards out.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? This isnt the first time this has happened. There is another gentleman on here who has told me that Crysis 3 runs flawlessly for him at 1440p on 2x MSAA where for me I get only around 20-30FPS at those settings. I want to get the most out of these 780s.

Thank you!

Kari

Splendid
I hope you are aware how the boost thingie works on those cards, it will use the highest clocks possible (within a reason) while keeping the temps at or below 80C. So 2 different rigs with the 780s can get quite different performance as a result. Do what you can to improve the airflow in the case to keep the cards cool and the performance should increase as the card can maintain higher boost clocks under load.
Thou if are having some more serious problems with the games this wont probably help much at all...

I will try tonight but I doubt I can do much. This Alienware Aurora Chassis came with 2 GTX660s and it was plenty of space for them however the 780s are a bit more bulky and they are really sandwhiched in there. Some people have said this is normal but obviously there is an issue because GPU2 seems to get hot quick.

Well, also I am faced with the issue that 1 GPU seems to be getting hotter than the other (rightfully so because the bottom card does not have a lot of room to breathe). Regardless, I'm wondering if the fans kick on when this GPU reaches a high temp., or if it waits for BOTH of the GPUs to reach a high temp. I'm not really sure how that works with msi afterburner. It's GPU2 that gets hot so maybe it's thinking it will wait for GPU 1 to get hotter? The temp difference between the 2 is generally about 5C. Hopefully if I can get the temps down a bit and if I enable adaptive Vsync I can get a few more FPS.

DJentlemen : Amen to that. I love the game and all and I want to beat it for nostalgic purposes, but it just erked me a bit that I spent a lot of $$ on GPUs and crysis 1 is basically saying up yours and punching me in the face. But then again, $$ cant buy brains cause i'm still newb to getting the settings all correct.
