I have not done a build in over 20 years, have been doing catch up research and am ready to buy.

Can anyone look over my parts list, especially the CPU, RAM, Power supply? I am not sure I picked the right ram timings there were a couple of options for same series of ram, I went with the entry price i5, but could step up slightly if there is justification.

I am will be building this with my son for his first built pc. He is into gaming and 3d modeling/animation.

thanks in advance for your time.

Any specific reason you picked the ASUS Sabertooth mobo ?

It's expensive, and unless it has a feature you absolutely want and can't get anywhere else ( which is unlikely ) you can go with a less expensive model yet still have great quality.

I'd probably drop the RAM from 16gb to 8 gb, although I don't use 3d modeling/animation software so don't know if it's necessary. Also the GPU can be downgraded in terms of Watts and thus saving even more cash.

All those savings should lead you towards a better GPU or CPU, maybe even an SSD.

What is your budget? You are over spending on that mobo and underspending on the gpu if your son games. I would go with the i5 4670k and drop the mobo to somthing like this http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-z87extreme4
Try and fit a 7950 into your build if it fits your budget. Also the 1tb is not two much more than a 500gb so i would recomend getting the 1tb.
