Seagate 3TB Internal Hardive Only Recognizes 2TB with 746GB Unallocated

Hi everyone! Here are my specs.

MB Asus P9X79 Pro
16MB Ram
Intel i7 3930k
Asus GTX 650i 1GB Memory Graphics Card
64GB SSD Drive-Running Windows 8 Enterpise 64bit
120GB SSD Drive
500GB HDD Drive
3TB HDD Drive

I have access to 2TB of 3TB, and 746GB is unallocated. I went to disk management, and it is designated as the system disk, even though Windows 8 is not running from this disk. This disk is used as pure storage. Therefore, I am unable to reformat, or delete the volume from disk management. I don't care if I have to make two partitions for the drive if that is the easiest thing to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

For drives larger than 2TB they need partitoned using GPT to recognize the full size of the drive. I understand that win8 is on the SSD, but if the 3TB drive was installed prior to you installing win8, then it most likely put the boot loader on the 3TB drive and the OS on the SSD.

You can use disk management to delete and recreate the partitons, but as you stated windows won't let you do that since the boot loader is on that drive. Follow the advice from my last post to update win8 and force it to move the boot loader to the SSD, then you can proceed with recreating the partitions on the 3TB drive.

Did you just recently install win8? It didn't put the OS on that drive, it put the boot loader on that drive. The drive needs partitioned as GPT not MBR. You will need to delete the partitions and recreate as GPT. In doing so, you'll probably lose the ability to start windows. To test this out, shut down your computer. Disconnect the power from the 3TB drive, now see if you can boot. If you can't, install the win8 install disc and try to do a repair install. This should move the boot loader to the OS disk. Now reconnect power to the 3TB disk and see if you can delete the partitions and create new ones.

Wondering if you can help me - Specs: Win7 Ultimate installed on SSD - starts up fully with SSD. I installed 3TB Seagate 7200 for more storage but Disk Management only recognizes 2048.00 GB, with the remaining 746.52GB unallocated and all the options grayed out. I've formatted the entire disk with Seagate DiscWizard, and it says the extended capacity manager is recognizing the additional space, but the Disk Management disagreed. The 2TB portion is shown as the G: drive. I can't get the remaining 746GB to be allocated, formatted or recognized.

System specs are:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 5000+
2GB RAM
