I have Fios in home with router for PC, TV and landlines. I want to add phone , TV and PC in new garage. I layed conduit underground from house to garage. Friend gave me Cat 5E cable to pull thru. Can I plug Cat wire directly into Verizon "Data Mode Link" slot inside the Verizon Battery Backup Unit that is in basement of house nearest garage? Or do I need to plug wire into router?

Is your cabling in a structured wiring configuration? (Does all of your cable, including internet, TV, and phone originate from one spot such as an in wall enclosure, rack, or closet?). If so then your router should be there. Pull the new cable to the router, or switch attached to the router, and plug it in there. Keep your run length under 100m (roughly 300').

Thanks everyone for responding. While at HomeDepot to look over equip. the light came on. Duh. I was trying to invent something. I completely forgot that to have a TV at the garage I needed another Fios Set Top Box DVR (and order multi-room service). So-o-o to make it simpler I decided to run my CAT 5E cable and also seperate phone line thru conduit to garage. Then I'll have the most important things I needed: phone and internet. Later if I want to watch TV on the patio, I can hang the flat screen (which I don't have yet) on the house wall with a cable to my one (1) set top box.
