I have a samsung laptop, a LG blueray player, and an LG tv. We recently just cancelled our cable and i want to watch my streamed movies that i have on my laptop on my tv. Now currently i have a VGA cable from my laptop to the tv. But i just hooked the speakers up to the blueray player ( its an all in one surrond sound, 2 tall boy speakers, a sub, a central and 2 stand alones). So if I have a DVD that is in the blueray i can have surrond sound, but when its on my laptop i cant because currently im bypassing the blueray. I tried plugging an HDMI cable from my laptop to the HDMI in port for my blueray, and it came up with a promt on the tv "now you can enjoy High Def from other devices change your input setting to an HDMI plug to watch" and i changed the input to HDMI 1-4 on my tv but no picture showed. Can you help?

You probably have to change the source on your TV to whatever input your Blu-ray player is. Then, change the input on the Blu-ray player to whatever input your laptop is plugged into.

See because my blue ray is plugged into HDMI 1 normally when i have an external device plugged into the blueray it shows in HDMI2, but first i have to change the input on the blueray to HDMI in so it then projects that device to another HDMI port, but even that doesnt work

Do you have your laptop set to projector mode? If not, the blu-ray player might not be recognizing that anything is attached.

I have tried pojector, and duplicating the screen on both screens, I even tried just on HDMI but it was trying to project it to something that wasnt their so i had to restart my computer to get my screen back on my laptop.

Well, that takes care of all the easy stuff. Do you know the model of the Blu-Ray player?
