What is 2D surround and 3D surround?

Hi there I am new to gaming and new to computers so I wanted to ask that what is the difference between 2D surround and 3D surround for Nvidia

I have a GTX 680 with 3 acer 24 inch 1080p monitors

3D surround requires 3D displays ..... \2D surround is same tech w/ 2D displays

Yes, you can run Surround in 2D mode. We call this mode Surround (2D). Make sure that 3D Vision is disabled from the Stereoscopic 3D control panel to use Surround (2D) mode.
