External HDD beeps when connected to PC

Can you still access the drive? If yes, do not attempt to write anything else to it and backup all data on that drive to another drive as soon as possible. After that you should check the drive for errors. Since it is an external drive, have you tested it on another computer? If you can't access the drive the beep may indicate the drive has failed.
