Hi,

Im building a new system and i dont know what memory should i choose. The specs are going to be:

MO:Asus ROG Maximus VI Extreme Z87 or Asus Z87 Deluxe
GPU:Evga GTX 780 3Gb
CPU:i7 4770K (oc. at around 4-4.5GHz)
CPU COOLER:Corsair H110
CASE:Thermaltake Chaser MK-I
..

I'll be using this PC for video editing and also high-end gaming.I think its best to have a 16Gb memory especially for video editing. For the moment i was thinking about a Corsair memory (2x8Gb) and the Corsair Airflow 2,ram cooler. The MO is a dual channel memory MO so i wonder if there will be some diferences if I put 4x4Gb instead of 2x8Gb.What memory should i get? Also i'll be curios about your opinion about:Asus maximus VI extreme vs Asus Z87 Deluxe.

Thank you

you dont really need 16gb of ram even for video editing, 8gb will work. Corsair Vengeance 8GB (4x2) 1600, also you dont really need either of those Mobo you could save another 100$ but if you want those two i would say the asus z87 Deluxe

Hello,:hello:

8GB will do good for most of today's games. For video editing anything between 8GB-16GB should do fine but if you are working with large data formats then 16GB is what I recommend. Yes, Corsair 2 x 8GB should be good. I recommend 2 x 8GB setup over 4 x 4GB simply because of the fact that 4 x 4GB runs causing more stress to the memory controller and moreover your motherboard does not support Quad channel memory architecture. So running with 2 x 8GB is better and also it will provide room for more memory if there is any need.

If you are overclocking, Hard core gaming, running multiple GPU's then I recommend cooler else I think you should do fine. But yeah if you have the budget then I don't see why you shouldn't buy.

Get the highest frequency memory with the lowest possible latency. Eg. DDR3-1600MHz with CL7. Your processor and mobo both support upto 3000MHz so you can try anything between 2133MHz - 2800MHz. Good luck with the upgrade.

P.S - If you need any memory recommendation let me know.

Thanks a lot Legohouse that really helped me.I found a memory kit:Corsair Dominator Platinum CL9 2x8Gb 1866MHz and its at relatively good price. Is 1866MHz enough or do I need 2133MHz or 2400MHz?This kit seems pretty good;what do you think? And also other great feature si that is compatible with that RAM Cooler.

You have no need for a DRAM cooler with those sticks, if extreme OCing and OCing the sticks (Ie. taking DRAM voltage to 1.7+ then maybe. 16GB would be a good amount based on what you mentioned, with 8 you'll prob find yourself going back and forth to the page file, which you don't want. Your rig is strictly single/dual channel, but w/ 16GB 2x8GB is best, less MC stress. though if you fill all four, your still in dual (it's a CPU/MC limitation)....Might want to consider 2133 with your requirements, going to 2400 or higher might be a waste (after using 32GB 2133 in my 2500K/P67, I was good to upping to 32GB 2400 for my IB build (both shown to side -> ). After using a ton of them, I'd strongly recommend the GSkill Trident line of sticks - they are basically my first recommendation to clients for new builds, Love 'em ;)

I am at the same place: an upgrade to z87. I am seeing 2 DDR3 16gb memory modules (2x8Gb): G.Skill TridentX 2400 CL10 and Kingston HyperX CL11. Well, with this information (same speed, CL10 vs CL11) everybody go for G.Skill but I read some reviews about Kingston 2400 CL11 it's better over G.SKill CL10. I am confussed... what to do? My aim is to obtain a good performance for video & pictures edition (and games too)

Thanks for all
