Here is my motherboard-

AS Rock LGA1155 DDR3 SATA3 USB3.0 Quad CrossFireX and Quad SLI A GbE ATX Motherboard Z77 EXTREME4

Is it really necessary for me to get a soundcard? I've been playing all my games with a set of speakers I bought a day after I built my PC and it sounds just fine to me.

More about : sound card essential

Absolutely not. I haven't bought a sound card in years.

Unless you have high-end speakers and/or high-end headphones, or specialized audio needs, you'll get very marginal gains from discrete sound cards. On-board sound has made sound cards a very niche market. I remember how excited I was getting an AdLib in the early 90s, but those days are gone.
