Your PSU has a single +12V@56A rail which is good.

At full load you need roughly 250W TDP a piece for those 580s, without any overclocking.

That would leave 200W for everything else in your system. Your CPU is probably 70-100W TDP. Motherboard/HDD/SSD/OpticalDrive/Fans are all less than that, but its going to depend on how many of what you have.

Its a given that you wouldn't have any headroom with your current PSU. Whether you could get away with it or not, is too close to for me to call, I think you can pull it off but couldn't guarantee what would happen with those GPUs under load.

Safe bet, if you have the money, upgrade to an 850W PSU of equal quality, probably looking at $150 for that, minus whatever you can get for your current one.

ok i understand what you're saying and i don't think i'm going to risk it. i dont know what to do now though, because i'm not confident enough to install a new psu and another card in sli my current computer was put together for me and im still very much learning. is there another option to the gtx 580's ?

PSU swap is not much more complicated than GPU. For added confidence, you could take a photo of every connection as you unplug it and refer to those photos when plugging in the new unit. The unit itself physically comes out very easily, usually just 4 screws on the back of your tower.

Only other option I could see would be to sell the 580s and get a newer single GPU that uses less total draw power.

Thank you all for the advice i really appreciate it , i think im going to try the sli and install a new power supply and use the above website etc to help me out as its about damn time i figured out what to do. dont think ill upgrade to another single card as very expensive and dont offer me as much performance as i'd like

finally could one of you please link me to a PSU that you would recommend that has everything i'd need for the 580 sli, i'd really appreciate it and sorry for being a noob
