Best Z87 Gaming Motherboard, Asus Maximus VI Extreme vs Gigabyte G1.Sniper 5

Asus Maximus VI Extreme vs Gigabyte G1.Sniper 5

Making new build: 4770K, GTX 780 X2, 16GB 2400MHZ

Can't decide what gaming motherboard to pick. Want to overclock the CPU 4.5GHz+ stable. The Gigabyte G1.Sniper 5 seems to be a little more expensive.

Which do you think is the best motherboard for features and overclocking?

  1. Can't help on the mobo if u are locked into those two but will say spending a lot doesn't have tangible results in gaming even with dual gpu's:

That leads me to the ram - do you have a use case where u need 2400? Unless haswell does something very different there's no point above 1600 for gaming:

  2. What else are you going to be doing with it?
  3. Water cooling, mainly Blu-ray /home theater, heavy video editing & photoshop not much else mainly Gaming
  4. Still either would be a good choice, might throw price in and save where you can, invest that in more and/or higher freq DRAM which would help with the editing and Photoshop projects
  5. For gaming? I'd get the Biostar Hi-Fi ..yes indeedy I would;and put the saved $ to a more powerful GPU
Oh..and keep in mind that Haswell will clock RAM as high as the RAM will go..
  6. Depends on the CPU model as far as DRAM goes, the K models can go with high freq, the locked models not very much.......I myself, like with MSI won't touch lower tier mobos like BioStar
