This has gotta be a memory issue!!!

I recently researched and purchased all the parts for a fast 8-core AMD pc.

Here is my build:
AMD FX-8150 FX 8-Core Black Edition Processor AM3+
ASUS Sabertooth 990FX - AM3+
Corsair Vengeance 8 GB ( 2 x 4 GB ) DDR3 1866 MHz CMZ8GX3M2A1866
ASUS HD7870-DC2-2GD5 Radeon 2GB DDR5
Kingston SSDNow V Series 128 GB SATA 3 GB/s 2.5
Corsair CMPSU-1000HX 1000-Watt HX Professional Series
Antec Kuhler H2O 620 Liquid CPU Cooler System

Now to get to the problem.

This is a very complex issue, there are numerous crashes and bsod's with numerous error codes. For example

Google Chrome will have the "Aww Snap" error (sometimes when this occurs, I will click "reload" numerous times, as it will just result in another "Aww Snap" quite often). As well as the Shockwave Flash has crashed error.

On very random occasions my computer will BSOD. Some times the error code will resemble that for the memory, sometimes it will resemble that for the hard drive.

So recently, I figured this was a memory issue, so I removed one of the two sticks, and put one only in the A1 slot. I booted up the computer with the single stick and wow, it worked! So maybe it was bad memory?! I took both sticks of memory (since they were purchased as a pair) and rma'd them. Purchased two more sticks of Corsair Vengeance, although it is a slightly different model

Corsair Vengeance Red 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1866 MHz (PC3 15000) Desktop Memory (CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9R)

Installed these sticks, and boom computer was screwed up again. Random BSOD, random shockwave/aww snap crashes via google chrome, even my ATI Catalyst wouldn't load properly or would randomly shut down.

I really hope this isn't my motherboard, and I don't really think it is.

Here's a few other things I have done in order to attempt to fix this.

-Yesterday, I reformatted.
-I've changed the memory speed to the OC'd 1866MHz (and I've changed it back).
-I've ran memory diagnostics (and found no errors)
-I've ran check disk (and found no errors on one run, and found errors on a separate run.)

I really have no idea what to do, I'm contemplating just selling the computer for parts.

Help me please!!!

Thanks
-Andrew

But there are 4 slots, and 2 sticks don't work in any combination of 4 slots. So maybe there is more to it than just a bad memory slot. Like 2 sticks of memory don't work. I can put a single stick of memory in either one of the 2 previous slots, and it will work. Like just now I reformatted again, and I tried 3 timse with 2 sticks of memory in different positions. Each time, windows crashed at about 30%. BUT, i removed one stick, and voila it worked, this is so freaking frustrating! So much money involved, and to be without a PC for 3 weeks for the RMA would be terrible.. lol :(:(:(

Would you reccomend I RMA my motherboard?

Do you have the latest BIOS? Did you try under XMP or DOCP if available? Try the sticks in slots 1-3 at spec timings and raise DRAM voltage + 0.05 and CPU/NB voltage + 0.06, if no joy, try same in slots 2-4....if still no joy, try same with spec timings at 1600 - if still a problem - prob need to pull the CPU and check for bent/broken pins or thermal compound in socket/on bottom of CPU....If still problems, couple other things we could try

So. This being my 2nd batch of corsair memory, there is no possible way this could have another bad stick!

Or could it?!

So I attempted to install windows 4 times, in 4 slots with the first stick of memory, running the memory at 1866mhz. Failed/bsod each of the 4 times. Then, removed that stick, and put in the other stick, slot a1, and it installed the first time perfectly. Of course I was worried the whole time that it would bsod or fail. So, now I'm using the computer.. of course with only 4gb of memory. But the new back from corsair is on the way, and when I receive that, I'll rma this one lol!

Hopefully the next batch will work fine with both installed. I'll cross my fingers.

Windows has updated fine, and i'll run some stress tests, such as me gaming for 5 hours on gw2!!

Haha, thanks for reading this thread, I'll be sure to update soon!

Ok, so I am VERY happy to announce PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

Here's what happened: As I said I had booted up the computer brilliantly with 1 stick of ram. There were 2 sticks currently sent in to Corsair for RMA. And today, when I came home from work the 2 new stick were at the door! Immediately I ran to my computer and installed them. The first two attempts to boot were just a blank screen, I figured that was because I turned my computer off and quickly installed the ram. But anyways, I booted a third time and it was up and running! I quickly ran the ram diagnosis test for 2 of the most complex passes, and everything was fine! I looked on my desk at the 4th "bad stick" and contemplated installing it, and possibly enjoying the glory of it working, but worrying that maybe it wouldn't work, and my computer would melt into a puddle of plastic again! But I said what the heck, and installed it!

ok here's the part where you are like OMG OMG WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!

It booted up perfectly! I quickly went into the bios and put the ram on the recommended 1867mhz. And boom! It was perfect. I ran the Windows Experience Index, and magically I went from a 5.9 (8mhz of ram, which held back my ssd I'm guessing because the ssd had the lowest score) to a 6.7!! The ssd is still VERY old, one of the first main stream Kingston models.

Anyways, ran another Memory Diagnostic, and everything checked out great!

So this perplexed me, I was unsure of what the answer to this problem could possibly have been. And I figured it as this.. In a spit of rage as I dismantled my computer on the intent of selling the parts on craigslist, I figured I would remove the CMOS battery, and let it sit for a half an hour in order to reset my motherboard, and then after I finally installed Windows 7 64 properly one of the first things I did was update my bios!

So that must be it.

I really appreciate everyone's time with helping me, and all the ideas. But I highly doubt any of you read all the way to the end, as this little dissertation tended to ramble on in parts!

Thanks so much!

Another update. Apparently things aren't fixed. And ASUS is hassling me about RMAing my motherboard. They need the SN from my motherboard, but there isn't one on the front nor the back. I might just suck it up and buy a new board.. As crappy as that sounds.

My computer does still run with 4 sticks, but it has bluescreened once. And it has crashed Internet Explorer a few times.

Well, I'll try that, I'm just thinking this has got to be some motherboard issue, I have a rapid rma going for my motherboard from ASUS (hopefully they have it in stock, but if they don't have that model, maybe they'll upgrade it to the 2.0!!)

Anyways, since the last crash yesterday, I haven't had any more issues, ran ChkDsk, Mem Diagnostic, and a few Windows Experience Scores (to test the max load temperatures for my memory and cpu), but no issues, no crashes. Gamed a fair bit last night on GW2 on max settings, and no issues. So hopefully this is the end of the issues, and hopefully I won't have to rma this computer.

So, since my last post, I have RMA'd my motherboard. When I replaced the motherboard I noticed a bent pin, which I failed to notice before.. Today I received my FX 8350 Black Edition processor (replacement). And I have had some google chrome crashes. I'm still waiting for a BSOD. If I get that I really don't know what else to replace except the GFX card...which was freaking expensive!!

WHat do I do!??!!
