Hi everyone, I have a Dell inspiron 2305 all in one that I would like to upgrade. I like the form factor so I will be adding a new motherboard, power supply, cpu, graphics card. I can mod the " case " to make the parts fit.

im well aware of heat issues.. options are water cooling, extra vents in case. may have to extend the back a few inches. options I have are Mini ITX motherboard, Micro ATX power supply, low profile, or mabe full size GPU card.
my main concern is the LCD connection. The 2305 " mabe all all in ones " uses a special cable that connects to motherboard. I would need a new cable or a adapter to connect to gpu. anyone have any ideas on how to make the connection work?

You might be able to find a better motherboard/chip that fits that chassis from the same model line, but you really can't buy off the shelf components and use them.

Only conceivable way would be to treat that all in one as an external monitor, but that is a lot of effort for little gain. I recommend selling it and starting from scratch.

Well, this may be an old post. But in case anyone stumbles on in it in the future, I decided to add my two cents.

1. Upgrading the hardware

a. Youll want a new chip. That board maxes out on 2ghz for sure, as it was native to that series of computers.
b. You might be able to find a mini-PCIe inside(havent taken it apart yet) if so, you can get a powered riser ribbon and attach a low profile/power PCIe x16
c. From there, you "could" somehow... glue, screw, stick the card on the back of the case/screen/enclosure-thing, and passthrough the LCD panel to DVI connecter, thus getting a new video card.
- or you could make an external PCIX card...

It wont be pretty, but it CAN be done.
fairly cheap.
