How do I make it so all programs I download and install automatically do so on my HDD instead of my SSD?

I just completed my build, and while everything has worked out so far, there is one issue I can't find a clear answer on. I installed Windows 7 64bit on an SSD, along with all of my drivers, and now the default location for downloading and installing programs is on the SSD. Is there anyway I can change it so all programs go to the HDD instead?

I have a similar issue, although not everything I download and install does that. There's most often a prompt menu before you hit "install" where you can choose where to install. If by download you mean through your browser (Firefox, Chrome, etc.) just change the default folder for downloads which you can find in the browser options/preferences. Just make sure before installing you choose the appropriate folder on the HDD instead of the SSD. I would assume a lot of that has to do with it automatically downloading/installing on the same drive that Windows is installed on.

I would have to agree with JobCreator. As far as I know, you have to change the settings in each program to change the defalt downloads folder. Each program has its own specific set of instructions on how to change the download folder. A quick google search could easily find intructions for each program.

Well, I did all that so any programs that I download and install will do so on the HDD, but I'm wondering if there's anyway I can make it so they always will, because there are a lot of programs that just go to the SSD without the option to switch. It's not that big of a deal (my SSD still has a ton of space), but if I can make it so everything goes to the HDD then I'd like to do so.

This would require a registry change:

1. Start Registry Editor,“Regedit” in All programs.
2. Locate the following: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
3. Right click on the value named ProgramFilesDir & change the default value C:\Program Files to the path you want to install all your programs in.
4. Click OK and Exit.

How do you change the default folder for downloads?
