Optical Drive Won't Open, Possible SATA Problem

I have just built my first gaming computer. I am all finished, except I think I may have missed a step or done something wrong. My problem is this: when I press the button to open the Asus DVD/CD drive, the green light turns on for a good 10-20 seconds, but the drive never opens. I have re-connected the SATA power and data cables multiple times to make sure this wasn't the problem. I checked BIOS and it says the SATA ports are empty, even though I have one connected to my optical drive, and another to my SSD. I am confused and cannot seem to find any answers, any suggestions?

Does the ODD try to eject?

I don't think so. It doesn't make any sound, just the green light turns on.

Like I said, I have reconnected the power and data cables many times to make sure they are connected properly. And no, I do not have windows OS installed yet because I need the CD drive to install it.
