Upgraded from gtx 460se to a 7870 and my idel CPU temp has raised by 5c .
When gaming the CPU temps reach anywhere between 55 and 70c,previously never went over 50c.
My thoughts on this are the increased card length is obstructing the airflow to the CPU or maybe the AMD driver are more CPU intensive than Nvidia's.
Any ideas guys?

The Radeon 7870 does provide more heat, which ofc is a factor.

Though I suspect your CPU before was bottlenecked by your GPU, so it wouldn't run at its full potential. Now that you got a GPU it can run at much higher usage and therefor it will run hotter as the usage has been increased.

My real concern is that I've heard the max operating temp for a Phenom is 62c

There are 2 versions of the 1055.. the 125w and the 95w. The 95 is good for 71c. the 125w is good for 62c

If you have the 95w version you are good.
