Okay, I got two questions to ask at once. I guess it's a lot but yea,
Basics is I have an android phone with Gingerbread v2.3.5. It's a good phone with a 1ghz processor from some unheard of Indian company that's gaining recognition in the market. It's a Micromax A57, if that's important.

1. I want to get the latest update of android, but I can't as I haven't got a System Update option in Settings>About.
I haven't got it anywhere actually, I tried the checkin method, but I haven't got a Nexus and I think it only works with those. I would appreciate a way to update, but otherwise I found an alternative for v2.3.7 called Cynogenmod v2.7. I want to know if I should use that or not. The *#*#2432536#*#* or checkin method says checkin succeeded, and I read that I have to wait for something called an OTA, whatever that is, and that I have to leave a data connection on, I only have 2G and don't really have Wi-Fi, soooo... that's all I can say.

2. I had all my contacts stored on my SIM card but after a point I wanted to delete a few contacts, I decided to store everything solely on my phone memory and deleted all my SIM card contacts, almost ever 26-28 hours my SIM card contacts...respawn? Because they just keep coming back and it's soooo annoying to delete them daily. Any way to stop that?

Help would be appreciated. :D

First of all super wrong category for your question. But at any rate moving on. Have you tried checking your phone's website for any tools that may aid you in upgrading your phone. Also realize that the upgrades have you be released by your manufacturer to be legit. The Cynogenmod is user generated there for has no connection with your phone's manufacturer and the process to make something use cyno usually means you lose warranty with your phone.

In my experience Cyno makes some damn good kernels and they come prerooted and look sick as hell!.

See, I got Cyno, although my warranty is still good for 2 months, I got it, Micromax is a stupid site that doesn't offer updates, they have released phones with later version software, but don't give updates, I also want to know about the SIM thing, also when I forget my pattern, before I could simply just put my e-mail and I could change it w/o Wi-Fi. NOW it says incorrect password even though I can access my Gmail app and view mail. Srsly, wtf?
I'm sorry about the wrong Category thing it was purely a mistake, I hadn't even PICKED a category....

Updates will generally come from your cell service provider, not from the actuall company that made the cell phone. Many cheap makers will not do the work to test and upgrade their older models.

Your password and SIM card issues will also go through your service provider.
