Hey, I've had the XFX 850w XXX since February, IT IS LOUD. I noticed that I don't use all the power and decided to go for around 600w instead. I Am going to overclock my 3570k and HD7950. what PSU shall I buy? I Figured that a more efficient PSU would make less noise at is produces less heat right? I saw this fractal design and it look pretty good~http://goo.gl/Tjw2E.

Any help/ suggestion is good.

How loud can your PSU go is strongly related to the quality of the used components.
I know I have never been a fan of XFX but usually XFX is not that loud/bad unless you simply unlucky and received a defective product.
You might want to claim the warranty first ...if it is till valid before considering to get a new one.

I have the 750w version and it's real quiet.
They are made by Seasonic who are the best in the PSU industry.
Wouldn't be loud unless you have a bad unit , and as for power , the computer will only draw what it needs.

Your 7950 should only need a 500w psu. When a psu gets loud, it is because the fan is spinning up to provide cooling under heavy load. I might suspect that your unit is going bad. Perhaps you can rma the unit if it is still under warranty.

If you are looking at replacing it, look at one of the Seasonic X series gold rated psu's. They warn you not to be alarmed if the fan does not spin. They are that efficient.

Thanks for the advice. The AMD website claims that a 750w PSU is needed to power a crossfire config. , so I bought a 850w just incase I needed more. I've had it for only 5 months and is fairly new. I have entered an RMA ticket to XFX and I am waiting for a response.

The seasonic brand is definitely the most reputable brand of PSU. Although it would be nice to have one, they are out of my budget range.

P.S. since, I have decided I am not going to crossfire.

Is it not modular? I saw the 520w is modular?

Power cables are attached , the rest is modular.
